Adventure that creates positive change

Skern Adventure operates two outdoor adventure centres on the North Devon coast, delivering residential and day programmes for schools, groups and families. Across both locations, we combine real outdoor experience with expert guidance to help children and young people build confidence, develop skills and discover what they’re capable of.

Our approach is simple: learning happens best through experience. Whether in the water, on the land or working together as a team, every activity is designed to be engaging, challenging and meaningful.

Two centres. One shared purpose.

Our North Devon centres offer different environments and different types of challenge, but they are united by the same purpose—creating positive, lasting impact through adventure.

Across both locations, you’ll find:

Experienced instructors who lead with care and professionalism

Safe, supportive environments where people feel confident to try

Programmes designed to build teamwork, resilience and self-belief

Real outdoor experiences that stay with participants long after their visit

This is adventure in its truest sense—hands-on, immersive and rooted in the outdoors.

Learning through adventure

Adventure is the vehicle for learning at Skern. Through shared challenges, children and young people develop communication, problem solving and independence in a way the classroom can’t replicate.

Every programme includes time for reflection, helping participants recognise what they’ve achieved and carry that learning forward—back into school, home and everyday life.

The result is more than just a great experience. It’s increased confidence, stronger relationships and skills that support future success.

Respecting the environment

Our programmes are shaped by the environments we work in—from the North Devon coastline to the surrounding countryside. We want every participant to leave with a greater awareness of the natural world and their place within it.

Through outdoor adventure, we encourage children and young people to understand, respect and care for their environment. Activities are designed to make this connection real—whether that’s exploring coastal ecosystems, working with natural materials or simply spending time outdoors.

We take a practical approach to sustainability across our centres, from how we operate day to day to how we design our programmes. The aim is simple: to protect the environments we rely on, while helping the next generation value and look after them.

Care, safety and experience

For 50 years, Skern Adventure has delivered high-quality outdoor learning experiences shaped by care, expertise and attention to detail. Our qualified instructors create environments where participants feel supported, encouraged and safe to take on new challenges.

We maintain high safety standards across all activities, with robust procedures, well-maintained equipment and experienced teams ensuring every programme runs smoothly and responsibly.

More than one kind of adventure

From coastal watersports to large-scale land-based challenges, our two centres offer a broad range of experiences for different groups and goals. Activities are designed to be inclusive and adaptable, ensuring every participant can take part, be challenged and try something new.

Whether it’s a school residential, a group visit or a family adventure, every experience is built around the same belief: Adventure creates positive change.
